Cavitation Tunnel Tests for Propeller Noise of a Frv and Comparisons with Full-scale Measurements
نویسنده
چکیده
This study presents the results of cavitation tunnel tests carried out with model propeller of a Fisheries Research Vessel (FRV) and those of noise measurements with its full-scale propeller to validate the low-noise performance of this propeller. The tests involve the simulation of a target wake using a wake screen and the determination of the nature and extent of the observed cavitation behind the simulated wake. The measurements for the noise levels of the model propeller and their analyses are also part of the study. The net noise levels of the model propeller are extrapolated to full-scale using the scaling law recommended by the 18 ITTC Cavitation Committee. The extrapolated results are compared with the criteria recommended by the International Council for the Extrapolation of the Sea (ICES) as well as against the full-scale measurements carried out with this vessel in Japan.

The Effect of Water Quality Characteristics on Cavitation Noise
This study investigated the effects of seawater on cavitation noise using a water jet test, a two-dimensional wing test, and a three-dimensional wing test. A model propeller cavitation test was conducted in a cavitation tunnel using seawater, in order to determine the effects of propeller cavitation more precisely. In the cavitation tests, measured propeller performance for both cavitation nois...
متن کاملNoise Localization Method for Model Tests in a Large Cavitation Tunnel Using a Hydrophone Array
Model tests are performed in order to predict the noise level of a full ship and to control its noise signature. Localizing noise sources in the model test is therefore an important research subject along with measuring noise levels. In this paper, a noise localization method using a hydrophone array in a large cavitation tunnel is presented. The 45-channel hydrophone array was designed using a...
متن کاملتحلیل هیدرودینامیکی و آکوستیکی پروانه های مغروق به شیوه عددی
The noise and hydrodynamics of two propeller models were investigated. First, the non-cavitating and cavitating flow was analyzed in different operating conditions around the marine propellers using the finite volume method (FVM). The hydrodynamic tests of the propeller were performed in the cavitation tunnel and similar results were observed between the numerical and experimental results. Sec...
متن کاملDesign Algorithm of a Free Surface Water Tunnel to Test the Surface-Piercing Propellers (SPP); Case Study Water Tunnel of Babol Noshirvani University of Technology
Surface-Piercing Propellers (SPPs) have been widely used in high speed craft due to some desirable features such as high efficiency, omission of resistance of equipment attached to the propeller and proper functioning of cavitation. Unlike the submerged propellers, theoretical methods have no significant application on simulation of SPPsbecause of problems related to modeling of these propeller...
متن کاملValidation of underwater radiated noise predictions for a merchant vessel using full-scale measurements
Underwater radiated noise (URN) was previously primarily of interest in connection with the signature of naval vessels. Recently it has become increasingly relevant for other vessel types, such as cruise and merchant ships, due to a growing concern that marine life is affected by rising anthropogenic noise levels in the oceans. Shipping is a main contributor to those noise levels, with the cavi...
